CSiS help system: dedicated server
requirements
the dedicated was designed with pc users in mind who- happen to have old machines in their basement that do server work
- regularly attend LAN parties and want to set up a main server pc without playing on those machines themselves
- want to run a server continuously in a remote windows environment
- having a 3d video card in the server computer is not relevant
- directX 9.0c february 2011 release or later required
- MSVCPP redistributable 2008 release or later required
- Microsoft© Windows© ME / 2000 / XP / Vista / 7, 512MB RAM
- ssh or telnet servers for remote administration recommended, if your windows version supports it, Remote Desktop (RDP) can be used as well.
starting the dedicated server with the csis launcher
you can use this method if you have a monitor attached to your computer or you can access your server via RDP. the launcher requires a 3d card for the animation however, if you have none in your server, scroll down for the alternative method.after installing the CSiS application, locate the CSiS shortcut in the start menu or on the desktop, or access the \Tools folder in your installation directory and execute CSiS.exe. in the launcher, click on "host" and choose "dedicated server" in the upcoming dialogue.

enter the round time, credits, maps etc values as usual. click on "let the battle begin" and the launcher will close while the logging application will open and show you the status of your server (skip the next step and scroll down to read more).
alternative full command prompt style dedicated server
you can use this method if you do not have a monitor attached to your computer, cannot access your server via RDP and have to rely on ssh or telnet, as well as if you plan to administrate your windows machine via another computer with a different operating system, like linux.after installing the CSiS application, locate the cli_dedi.exe binary inside you CSiS installation directory.
you can also open this binary via telnet and ssh from a remote computer, for instance if you do not have a screen attached to the server. find more details under 'telnet and ssh' below.
this application will ask you a number of questions to help you set up your server. it will require you to enter either numbers or names and confirm your input with the return (enter) key. if you enter something invalid or hit enter without typing anything, the tool will fall back to its standard values.

when you have answered all questions, the window will clear and the the application will show you the status of your current server. read more about that after the break.
the logger and command line control
"the logger" is the default view that tells you about the status of your dedicated server. in the upper 19 lines of the console window, all server- and game-relevant data will be listed, like map reloads, joins/leaves and so forth.
...while the last line of this winodw is reserved for host input. to enter a command, press the space bar on your keyboard and start typing. available commands are, for instance:

to see the whole list of available commands, enter "help" into the cli_dedi.exe.
telnet and ssh
you can start, administrate and maintain the cli_dedi on a remote server using telnet (be careful) or ssh (hard to set up in a windows environment), if RDP is not available. the console interface will be streamed to your open console window on your local machine as if you were sitting right in front of the server.
when the application shuts down, you will be dropped right back to your windows command prompt.

game commands in the dedi CLI
all in-game host console commands are available on the command line interface as well.we recommend to use bot_min as soon as the server is up to give joining players some opponents to play against until other contestants come online.
