CSiS help system: the player HUD

heads up display elements

CSiS provides the player with a hud that displays all valuable information about your ship status, your environment, possible threats in the hazardous environment of space, and other ships in range.



hud elements explained

1. crosshair
this is where your weapons are currently pointing

2. mounted guns
displays all your energy weapons. they can be activated/deactivated using the assigned hotkeys or with just a click using the HUD mouse button.

3. rockets/torpedos and mines display
shows you how many mines and/or torpedos/rockets are left for you to fire.

4. scanner
displays an abstraction of your environment. you are in the center of the scanner, while other objects appear as red or green dots for enemies or friendly ships, white dots for neutral objects, yellow for stars, and so on. since the scanner has only two dimensions, objects above and below the ship are displayed with grey lines. if the line is below the object, the object is above you, it is above the object, the object is below you, relative to the plane of the eclipic of your ship.

5. thruster energy
power for your auxiliary engines. will regenerate over time.

6. weapon energy
power for your guns. will regenerate over time. energy drain is dependent on the guns you have mounted and activated. this energy is drained automatically if your tractor beam is active.

7. shield energy
shield power. in other words, your health bar. if the power is down to 0, your ship will explode. will regenerate over time.

8. current speed
your current speed. max speed is dependent on the ship you choose.

9. chat
chat window. displays messages for you, private messages, notifications.

10. chat maximizer
this button toggles the maximized state of the chat window for better readability. can be activated using the HUD mouse button.

11. weapon angle circle
keep your target in this circle for optimal weapon accuracy.

12. rocket target pointer
only visible when non-guided missiles are loaded.

13. target frame
displays target's name, target's distance, target's speed and target's shield energy. the color depends on its friend/enemy status.

14. target movement prediction
the game predicts for you where you have to shoot to hit your target, based on your own position, the target's speed, the target's movement and direction as well as the firing speed of your mounted guns.

15. round timer
a countdown timer that displays how much time is left for the current round.

16. credits display
displays the current status of your funds. bonuses for frags, penalties for team kills or suicides, your expenses for your equipment etc. will be marked here.
